Vintage 50’s-60’s IBM field engineering division Hexadecimal adder subtractor with stylus. Made in USA. Mechanical calculator with original stylus that tucks away inside the unit on the lower right side. Made of Hard plastic. All Dials turn using the stylus. Very good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Some scuffs and scratches. All dials work. 9 1/4” long x 2 7/8” wide
**the idea to make a hexadecimal version of a dial adder came from Carl J. Lombardi, who was one of the IBM field engineers. In the late 1960s IBM got Sterling to make a batch of these machines which were then issued to their field engineers. The adder has no mention of Sterling anywhere, but does have the list of patents on the back. -www.jaapsch.net
